May Flowers have begun to bloom!

Hello Sens Fans ( and non Sens Fans) :)

What a wonderful time we have been having in this wonderful month of May!

We started with Education Week and the students showed just how much learning and discovery we do in our class and school.

For Math we have been very busy and have been doing so much hands on learning. We have been working on Transformations, dividing, Fractions and Capacity/Mass.

For Science we are working on Plants and Soils. We planted some beans, cucumbers and tomatoes and they are growing in our classroom as well as at the students homes. We have been rummaging through soil and we will be continuing to do so!

During Language class we are working with Non Fiction texts and are beginning to work on Persuasive text! We are going to be debating and Persuading all day everyday!

Our Track and Field Day is on June 6 and we will be practicing those skills in gym class since we have just finished our Frisbee Unit.

Please check the Blog for Special Dates coming up in June since June is an incredibly busy and exciting month!.

Thanks for reading!

Sincerely
Mr. Boddy

Easter is Fast approaching!

Hello fellow Sens fans (I hope! lol)

We have had another amazing week! With Easter this weekend, I hope we all take sometime to relax and reflect on the amazing gifts we have in our lives! We have been discussing the importance of Lent and how important our family is in our lives.

In Math we are working on 3D Geometry and finishing up our Data Management unit on graphing. They have done some excellent work with 3D Nets and we will be having our Data Assessment next week.

In Science they have continued to amaze me. They are working on a group project on an animal and it's habitat, I cannot wait to see the finished product. Animals are so much fun to learn about and our students will be teaching us all about them soon!

In Language we are working on reading and comparing Non Fiction to Fiction. Thank you for the magazines we will be suing them for our Non Fiction Assessment. "Who knew there are so many books out there about real life stuff!' to quote a student.

Music, we have continued with our bucket drumming and man are my ears ringing... but in a good way! They have really showed a good understanding of 1/4, 1/8 and even 1/16 notes, hopefully we can practice a lot in the next couple weeks so we can put something together for education week.

Art we have been working on understanding the use of negative space and and have been working on our Easter crafts.

Thanks again for stopping by! Keep checking Twitter to see all the great learning that goes on in our wonderful classroom!

Chat again soon and Go Sens Go!

How about another great week? "YES" replied the students!

Hello school fans,

What an amazing first week back! The students were so excited to  get back to their learning and could not wait to show off their maker skills. The students have really shown how they have been preparing for easter with our Lenten words and focusing on the three pillars of Lent (Pray,Fast,Give)

Last week we had several teachers from another school board come in and observe our students learning in our makers space. They were amazing and really showed how excellent working in a makers space is.

For science we have started our next unit on Habitats and Communities and they have joined a few of their fellow students in creating a research project on a habitat/animal of their choosing. I cannot wait to see what amazing presentations they create.

For math we have continued to work on Money and Data Management. We will be having a Money Assessment on Thursday this week, they have done great work.

Language we decided to work on poetry and we started with Haiku's. They have written some excellent ones based on a landscape painting they made.

Music this week we are learning how to better use the Bucket Drums and we were lucky to have a high school student from St. Peters come and show us some very cool skills.

Finally our Genius Hour has been a great success and the students are really excited to be in charge of their own learning, it is amazing seeing them have the drive to learn in such an in depth way!

Bye for now!

Sincerely Mr. Boddy.

In Language we are working on our creative writing and being able to write about what a picture can inspire us to write.

For Math we are continuing getting a deeper understanding of Money and Graphing. We have had some awesome Math Chats and they have showed some excellent work on the Presenter.

Science we are finishing up our Unit on Sound and Light and we will be starting our next one after March Break.

For Music we will be starting our Bucket Drumming class and we are lucky to have a few Students from St. Peters high school coming April 7th to help with our learning.

On Friday we will be starting our Genius Hour, the students and I are pumped to flew our research muscles and they are inspired to do some self driven learning.

March begins!

Hello everyone,

What an exciting time it is to be at St. Francis of Assisi.

We have started LENT this week and today is Ash Wednesday. We have started our LENT photo challenge and we will be creating a slide show with all the amazing photos and tableaus our students create.

In Math we are working into overdrive. We are continuing with our probability Fridays and we have started 2 new units this week, Money and Data Management. This will lead to a lot of hands on learning and as our students put it fun times learning our "Math Ed" which was coined because of the great Math work we did in the gym.

Science we are working on creating instruments that make sound and the students have begun to create their own bands.

Language we are working on procedural writing and making sure our sentences are fluent and our steps are detailed and easy to follow.

The students have done an amazing job with their Read to Succeed and Prodigy Challenge way to go! Let's keep it up for the month of March as well.

I will begin to use the Remind App to send information home as well as continue to use the agenda and twitter.

Have a great day!
Andrew
